Introduction: My name is Elena, welcome to my profile! I believe that the most important relationship we need to build on is the one we have with ourselves, without that, it is difficult to get through life and relate to others. For me, therapy is reconciling with oneself, understanding our past so that we can handle what life throws at us in the present and future. My own experience as an expat, moving and living in different countries has helped me to understand the processes that one goes through when you leave your home country. How hard it is to miss the family and friends, as well as all the cultural difficulties that arise from culture shock. If we add to that, some unresolved issues from the past then it will all feel really uphill sometimes, that’s probably your best moment to seek help and lighten that load you’ve been traveling with. I studied psychology at Exeter University (UK), then I moved to Madrid, Spain, to specialise in the following areas: couples and family therapy and child and adolescente psychology, both based on family systems theory approach. I have also specialised in psychodrama, which is such a good tool to help the expression of the body when words just can’t explain. I believe that what happened in our childhood as well as family dynamics have a lot to do in shaping who we are as adults, so I find that’s something interesting to take a look at in therapy as a way of being able to move forward. I have ample experience working in social services in Spain: foster care, child protection services and couples who are going through conflictive divorces/ separations. All focused on helping families improve their relationships and minimising the negative impact of family dynamics on children. I currently work in my private practice with individual, couples and family therapy, with teenagers, young people and adults. I am bilingual in both Spanish and English, working with in person sessions in Madrid and online all over the world. During my years as a therapist I have worked with people from all over, regardless of their gender, sexuality or preference, ethnicity and nationality. I am totally open and friendly to LGTBQ+, I feel that who you are should never be an impediment to being able to access therapy. We are after all human beings and should all be treated with the same respect regardless of our beliefs, colour or sexuality. Why don’t you get in touch, start discovering all of your strengths, breaking way from old patterns and find the right path for you for the future.
